Come on, you've heard it before. Some a-hole or another calling what should be considered basic human kindness "special treatment," like it's exceptional and going above and beyond because they just wanna be an jerkface all the time and not get flak for it.

And of course we've all heard people with honest to God disabilities called bums. Easy to call someone like Minnow lazy when her body doesn't obey her brain half the time.

Anyway, yeah... these people REEEEALLY liked Andrea. As you've probably guessed, "cyclops" is a slur used against cyborgs with one "real" eye and a cybernetic eye to go with it. He's their current CAPTAIN, and because he's a cyborg, he still isn't treated with dignity.

30,000 years into this future, most of the prejudices of our time are gone. Race, sexuality, gender... people generally don't care about that stuff anymore. There is a NEW prejudice, however. It's a prejudice against cyborgs. Not because they're actually dangerous, like in the latest Deus Ex game (so stupid), but for the same reasons some hate people on welfare and and food stamps and stuff nowadays (instead of the oligarchs far more of their taxes go to).

Cyborgs like Minnow are expensive. Their parts break down and need replacements, they have infections that need constant treatment, and if they can't work, well, other people who can't be bothered to care see them as a burden on the more able bodied people. Cyborgs have become pretty common, but hey, people need some kind of a target to point their hate at, and cyborgs like Minnow, or people with disabilities like autism (or an autistic cyborg in her case), make the easiest targets of all.
